We're huddled in the far corner of my bedroom.
Arms wrapped around our knees in the dark.
The approaching footsteps grow louder.
Ominous thuds.
Our mother...but somehow not.
She's standing outside my door.
We listen to the creak of hinges.
My sister clenches my arm.
"She's coming," she whispers.
"She's broken."

Fre-key.
I'd read it.
Woot!
Is it starting to feel real?
(oh! my word verification is 'subpar'...I'm being insulted and critiqued by blogger now. awesome.)
I love that turn from, she's coming, to she's broken. Very ominous. You have an excellent writerly name!
...years of grief finally stretching toward a finish line. Thanks for reading, and let's all remember...writers are natural born readers...so I'll show you mine when you all show me yours. Books...I'm talking books...minds outta the gutter please:)
that was scary! I would definitely read it, I am super intrigued! Scary mothers are just so wrong and yet so great, in a horrifying hate-it-but-can't-look-away sort of way. Shiver!
Love it!
Happy Friday, Elliot!
I'll leave you with this:
Ew! Alan, did you just eat sofa pizza?
Yes.
Ooohh I can't wait to read it! Great blurb. ;)
Thanks for the encouraging words on my blog.
Nice!! You've definitely piqued my interest.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment today! Hope to see you there again sometime. And no, I haven't read the short you mentioned... I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
Very powerful - the paradox between the vulnerability and closeness of the siblings - and the line "She's broken."
Brilliant.
...thanks everyone for your kind words:)
