An Eagle's View...

...for a rare treat, courtesy of Mother Nature herself, link over to the live video feed of a once in a lifetime peek at the hatching of baby Bald Eagles at a fish hatchery in Iowa. (not to be confused with that famous line from the stalls of most every Men's public restroom...'for a good time, call... ;)

The first youngster was born earlier this morning...the second of three eggs is due to hatch any moment.

Enjoy :)

is that some poor dead animal lying in front of the mother eagle in the nest?

The eagle is beautiful. It took me a few minutes to realize it was a live upfeed. I saw an egg...it's very windy. She must be protecting the baby....?

Love the dead rabbit!

...proud papa dropped off the bunny an hour earlier. Somewhere under Mamma's feathers you'll find the newborn. The nest reportedly weighs 1 1/2 tons, and sits eighty feet high in a massive tree...hence the wind.

Oh this is so awesome! In the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens about 45 mins outside Jo-burg, there is the last pair of mating black eagles - there's great excitement in the local community papers when their eggs hatch, and they have their own society to protect them.

Wow - a nest weighing over a ton? Did I understand that right? Thanks for the link - fascinating - wonder what the eagles would think if they knew that 'the world is watching' ?!
Thanks for visiting me, too :-)

...thanks guys for sharing my interest in the eagles. It's truly an amazing sight.

Michael, you're funny. I'm considering that perhaps my written thoughts are being monitored by the C.I.A, which of course means that by simply sharing my theory with all of you, suggests that I may awaken in the morning from behind a barred door, my arms locked in a straight jacket, my next door neighbor, (whom I'll never actually lay eyes on,) screaming hysterics about little green men hanging from the trees in the courtyard.
Or it's just harmless jibberish related to my surf n' turf template. I'm betting on the latter...but who knows?

Thanks for the link, El. I saw so many bald eagles in the skies when I lived on Mount Rainier, but to see the nest is amazing. It feels like peeking, because its something we aren't naturally supposed to see. Very cool. Thanks!
